Project Overview

The Women Empowerment – Stitching Training Program is a flagship initiative of Gramin Mahila Vikas Sansthan (GMVS), started in 2023 to empower rural women through skill-based livelihood opportunities. The project aims to provide high-quality stitching and tailoring training to women from marginalized and low-income communities, enabling them to earn a sustainable income and achieve financial independence.

Training Structure

Each training cycle runs for 6 months, during which two batches of women are trained — 60 women per batch, totalling 120 women every 6 months. The curriculum covers both practical and theoretical training in garment stitching, cutting, design, measurement, and finishing.

To enhance real-world exposure, participants also go on an industrial educational visit, where they learn about production systems, fabric handling, and market linkages.

Integration with SHGs (Self-Help Groups)

An important component of the program is connecting trained women with Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Through SHGs, women gain access to micro-finance support, savings systems, group-based production work, and collective marketing opportunities. This not only strengthens their economic foundation but also encourages teamwork, leadership, and long-term entrepreneurship development within the community.

Project Objectives

• To equip rural women with market-ready stitching and tailoring skills.

• To promote economic self-reliance among women through skill-based livelihoods.
• To create market linkages with local vendors, schools, and institutions for order-based production.
• To support trained women in starting small-scale enterprises or joining production centres.

Impact

The project has significantly improved the socio-economic status of rural women in Jhotwara Block, Jaipur. Many trained participants have started earning through tailoring work, joined SHG-based enterprises, or become part of GMVS’s Sangini Production Centres.

The initiative not only provides livelihood opportunities but also builds self-confidence, decision-making power, and community leadership among rural women. This collaboration between GMVS, HG Infra Engineering Ltd., and H.G. Foundation showcases how corporate partnerships can create sustainable impact through women-led empowerment and entrepreneurship.
