Reviving the village’s own water wisdom
Drought is growing more severe because natural resources are poorly managed. Historic methods of conserving and using water are overlooked by the younger generation, causing serious damage to water availability.
GMVS focuses on building rainwater harvesting structures, contour bunding and watershed development. It builds awareness and sensitivity among community members towards relief measures and the management of natural resources so that they can maintain them for years.
Relief work includes installing and repairing hand pumps. Every initiative is organised with the active participation of the community, so people also benefit from the labour cost. GMVS plans to prepare a team of trained youth in every village of the project area so that villagers can use their services regularly from within the village.
